Just War? Really? Hunh?

Richard Land was on NPR's Fresh Air today, prompted, I think, by the explosive success of Jim Wallis' "God's Politics".

Anyway... He mentioned "Just War Theory", which I hadn't heard of recently... That lead me to Google for the specifics of "Just War Theory", and this summary.

Land seemed to think (or, at least, strongly implied) that the current Iraq activity met Just War Theory's criteria.

A just war can only be fought to redress a wrong suffered.

Unless you're one of those Americans, you have to — at least — admit that the war was pre-emptive. "Don't let the smoking gun be a mushroom cloud" means that the gun hasn't fired yet, right?

The violence used in the war must be proportional to the injury suffered.

*Even* if 9/11 is the injury and "terrorism" is the perpetrator, haven't coalition forces destroyed 10x as many Iraqis as 9/11's victims?

What did you expect from the "Moral and Ethics" mouthpiece of the Southern Baptists? Rational dissent?

Anyways, its been a while since you updated. Whatcha been up to?

Still working on wedding stuff. Took friday off to look at more sites and I think we have it narrowed down to three. We're going from there to see how many people to invite to take care of that and to do some cost estimates. Her mom is a bit freaky when it comes to money — so things have to be done in certain ways.

Work is being work and mostly busy during the day. Have more than a few things to catch up on since taking the day off. Yeash.

Remember the GM I was telling you about back at Christmas? I've got a brand-new story that you'll you crack up at.

Well, I think it's a mistake to dismiss anyone out-of-hand as irrational or incapable of logic. Or, at least, literacy.

Not that i was trying to make that particular dismissal — more that the SoBaspt wouldn't try to bring up any sort of rational dissent with the President's policies.

Moving along.

In other news, I found out about this little fun bill last night:

I really don't know what to say to somebody who would make nudes for art classes illegal. SECTION 67.2550 if you're curious.
